Yeah, not too sure about this one. From what I know he is a believer in sabermetrics although he has never read or saw Moneyball. And he formed a close relationship with Prince Fielder. It does make me feel better about it that Theo has worked with him before so hopefully it is less of a gamble. Having the gang back together and all on the same page with philosophy and what not should be good.
2011-11-21 04:38:35 UTCThe odds makers give the Cubs the highest chance at signing Pujols? Above the Cards? I just don't see it
2011-11-04 03:13:40 UTCAgree Tom. Can't see the Cubs laying out that kind of dough for Albert. Prince is more likely than Albert. not likely but more likely than Albert.
2011-11-06 07:33:58 UTCRight. It will be interesting to see if either of these guys get 200M. With the Yanks and Red Sox basically out of the running, the Dodgers broke that takes some big hitters out of it. I'm not sure either of them will get that much money. Pujols will stay with the Cardinals is my guess.
2011-11-07 06:22:33 UTCI think that is most likely scenario. I keep hearing the Nats could make a ridiculous offer to someone. Is Albert happy with 2 WS rings and goes for the biggest money? Just to feed his family of course.
2011-11-07 06:42:03 UTCAs an old time traditionalist I kinda hope Pujols spends his entire career in St L.
2011-11-07 06:43:22 UTCno shock they got rid of Quade. I am not at all sure of who they are looking to hire. Is Francona a possibility? Doing a compensation package for an existing manager would be funny, I mean thats all they are doing
2011-11-03 09:18:07 UTCSounds like the interview process is a bit like the Spanish Inquisition. The guy who gets the job is more likely to be the
survivor rather than the winner.
2011-11-06 07:38:57 UTCDude seriously WTF? The Cardinals are assholes. I hate to admit this but from Ryno's perspective you have to take that meeting, its like if you were drafted by the Cardinals, you can't risk your playing career by giving them the middle finger. But I agree the idea of seeing Ryno in a Cards uniform is disgusting
2011-11-03 09:20:57 UTCHe wants to be a ML manager. So far the Cards are the only team offering an interview. As tough as it would be to see him in red, I can live with it. Ryno has done it the right way his entire career. He deserves a job somewhere.
2011-11-06 07:51:10 UTCAlright let's change the culture!! Does that mean the Cubbies will actually hustle now? Marlon Byrd has been waiting 2 years for his work ethic to rub off on somebody
2011-10-28 23:13:14 UTCFirst off, I think Kenny looks dynamite in the bow tie. Pulls it off without even trying. Boom.
2011-10-14 07:44:56 UTCSecondly, why would the Cubs shoulder Lackey's deal, because of Red Sox leverage? The Sox are blowing up that clubhouse anyway, I don't quite understand how that works.
2011-10-14 07:46:50 UTCHonestly, this shit excites me more than signing a top tier player. I still haven't seen Moneyball yet, I might lose my shit if I watch it and then the Cubs close Epstein. I read that grantland article about the cubs with one of the points being how the Cubs traded quality prospects for Garza while they are in the wrong part of the "success cycle" or something like that. Which totally resonates. If you get Epstein the non-sequitir decisions will go away - sure he will miss on a player from time to time like he did with Lackey - but that signing seemed smart at the time. Garza, Soriano, Bradley, Fukudome etc. - all were sketchy at the time of the signing. If we keep a big payroll and have Epstein as the GM, I truly good things will come. - Btw the Cards MUST lose! Go brewers I guess!?!
2011-10-12 13:03:10 UTCMoneyball was solid, although it took major liberties with the book and glossed over all the nerdy math, which was one of the things I liked most. Anyway, tangent, I think Epstein has the cred to make a difference, but I also believe the year left on Mike Quade's deal is in jeopardy if Theo comes aboard. I'd also be interested to see where Epstein directs attention first, the Cubs have so many issues. I think the first thing he should do is ban pink Cubs hats at the gates.
2011-10-12 22:10:53 UTCA good GM is worth their weight in gold. They don't make all the right moves, but they put you in contention. Tigers were horrible for 15 years until they got Dombroski in 2005. It's better than signing a Pujols or Fielder or a new coach. Good day for the Cubs, I hope it works out.

2011-10-13 03:17:34 UTCWhoa, sorry about that, not sure what happened on the multiple posts. I just wanted to say that, with this done deal, I will remember this day as a Cubs fan if this returns us to the highs of 2003, 2007, 2008.
2011-10-13 03:19:38 UTCAwesome!!!! I'm pumped....this is huge...lets get our 2014 World Series flight and hotel plans in order!
2011-10-13 05:12:42 UTCyep
2011-08-28 15:07:30 UTCHey man, that was a totally depressing post. Epstein is the shot in the ass we need, just like Sweet Lou. I'm excited for once.

2011-10-14 07:58:24 UTCAK, you're quickly becoming the king of the triple post. Jittery hands these days? I remember back in the day when you were a monster of an athlete with the hands and coordination of a Craig Hodges. Oh no wait I was thinking about myself
